Be an informed voter: Let the iEye brainwash you for the good of the show!

I'll be putting this in one contestant at a time, so, please, be patient... Thanks! (At least I'm doing it this time...because it's so crucial...)

I'm not even gonna mess with the italics, the underline, the asterisks (well, not the asterisks 'cause that was "Who will make it to Wild Card?" anyway...), I just have to get this in and get y'all voting.

I have lots of news to throw in. One of them is, in sum, William Hung's CD premieres April 6th. Or maybe it was the ninth. Probably whichever one's a Tuesday... I had no time to even skim the article, so it's very possible that I'm wrong and that's, in fact, when he starts recording or something...

    But anyway!

Onforward to the folks with talent. (Let it be known: I support William Hung's modest, understanding, optimistic and positive attitude, his overall demeanor, his "try your best and be proud of at least that much" philosophy, but I'm still bitter that his lack of singing talent is getting so much more attention than others' actual talent.)

I might skip out on the full sentences, BTW.

iEye's Picks (in order of priority): Vote 1-866-43657-##

Jon Peter Lewis -- 01

George Huff -- 04

Suzy Vulaca -- 05

Jennifer Hudson --08

Jon Peter Lewis--VOTE 1-866-43657-01! Why? Because I love this guy (my pen-sexy potato pancake baby...even though I don't really know him...), and you ought to too. He's got a comedic, charismatic personality, he played with the crowd, he, well, he kinda danced! Does anyone else remember anyone EVER getting up there and actually moving around? We had Fantasia doing the BoBo (or...whatever it is...), but I think that may be the closest we've ever come to a Top 32 contestant getting up there and actually freely dancing at will. And, yes to whichever male judge it was, what a daring time to do so. He has shown so much versatility--I can remember him singing in three different octaves, actually, and so many styles. Somebody tell me how you go from "Tiny Dancer" to the much deeper, very different "A Little Less Conversation." Elton John to Elvis Presley...hmm... I think he has the least chance of being picked by a judge though. No one really completely jumped for him. So VOTE 1-866-43657-01, and hurry!

Elizabeth LeTendre--She was good, a bit old-sounding, but she was, ah, all over the place, pitchwise, in my opinion. She's good for the slower songs. And I agree, Simon, she has no "It" factor. She has a pretty typical (or hidden?) personality, and, I mean, even I haven't ever had much to say about her.

Katie Webber--She was...she was just okay. The song wasn't very melodic, and she didn't do anything to help that. She was straining a little, running out of air at some points (like the end...), but she played with the camera, at least. I'll give her that much...

George Huff--VOTE 1-866-43657-04 AND HURRY!! He was just a little shaky in the beginning. He started off really deep, so maybe that's why. He looked kinda scared too. I love the pizzazz, the active theatricals, the charisma, panache, personality… That’s one of the great things about George Huff. He’s kind of reminds me of one of my favorites from last year, Rickey Smith, only he’s on the other end of the pitch spectrum. The guy’s happy demeanor is comparable to William Hung’s. I love his voice, but, y’know, that goes without saying. You have to hear it to get the full effect. VOTE 1-866-43657-04!!!

Suzy Vulaca—I loved her. I love how she took a different turn on the song, especially the beginning. Anyone noticed that that’s one of the big things I’m looking for, someone unique, someone happy, someone daring to change up the tune a little bit. Well, Suzy Vulaca did it. When she said she was going to sing “I Will Survive,” I thought, “Ooh, I would like to hear her sing this one!” And, I did. She was just a bit flat on a few parts, but that could’ve been a result of when they were having technical difficulties in the middle of her performance. I loved it. She has power! She has range! I agreed with Paula on this one! VOTE 1-866-43657-05 but I don’t doubt any judge will pick her!

Matthew Metzger—He sounded typical, he was still weak, but I loved the microphone stand tricks (well, he held it and swung it around once, possibly by accident…the end…). I definitely didn’t think his voice was too high…but I still don’t like him. I think my sister put it well: He’s just too cheesy.

Leah LaBelle—The outfit was a little hooker-ish. I had to put it bluntly, sorry. She even sang and moved too…okay, seducingly. Her voice was weak, she sounded a little amateur, maybe even kiddish, especially at the beginning, and especially comparing her to George, Jon Peter, and an AI2 contestant who blew us away with this song—Trenyce. She needed to sing LOUDER! I was, like, waiting for a climax there, but it never happened! Perhaps a confidence issue? She seemed to change her tone and mood throughout the song, starting out like a soft little lamb, ending with Randy’s favorite R&B/soul sort of thing. She was unsteady, not smooth (yes, Simon!) and simply unexciting.

Jennifer Hudson—I love her personality. Before, she seemed very quiet and a bit closed, but now a little more of her is starting to come out, and I really liked it. I like the quiet, modest side, I like the spunky, fashion-daring side, I like the “Imagine” side, and I like…dear I can’t even remember the song. Actually, to be honest, I couldn’t understand some of the words as she sang, but she had range, she had power, she had a mature voice (credit to my Dad for noticing), and, sure, Simon, she was losing control a bit, but I still thought her voice was great. She made weird facial expressions, and, gee, she always gets a comment about her outfit! But…I still loved her. She was great. VOTE 1-866-43657-08!

WILD CARD!!!: My pen-sexy pancake baby is coming back!

Hey tagboard poster Beth, I've got something you might like!
Thanks so much to groups.yahoo.com/group/Amy-Adams poster kcgjdar1fan. This person left this post that might interest y'all:

i found this on the idolonfox.com msg boards under the title
wildcard spoiler or something like that:

"Ok, I'm going to back away so the teeny boppers don't attack me...
in no particular order:

Alan Richardson, Eric Yoder, **Jon Peter Lewis**, Katie Webber, Lisa
Leushner, Leah Labelle, Marque Lynch, Matt Metzger, Michael Kowan,
Sarah Logan along with two group 4 people.

It's on idolforums.com under 10 of the 12 wildcards revealed."

I THEN CHECKED THE ACTUAL POST ON IDOLFORUMS.COM AND I GOT THIS:

"My uncle is good friends with one of the associate producers of the
show (I can't say which one because I am not sure if he was allowed
to tell). My uncle had breakfast with him this morning and they
started talking about the wildcard round and he told my uncle ten of
the twelve contestants who will be brought back (My uncle knows that
I am a huge fan so made sure to pass on the news). The other two
will most likely be from group four. The ten contestants below were
notified last night that they are being brought back. Last year all
of the contestants found out when America did, but it didn't leave
them enough time to get ready, etc. The last two contestants will
find out on Wednesday. He admitted that they are purposely bringing
back more guys for the round to try and even out the male/female
ratio. The judges will watch the twelve who are brought back
rehearse and then choose eight of them on the spot to perform. Then
America, Simon, Paula, and Randy will each choose one to move on. He
also said that Jasmine Trias and George Huff gave excellent
performances yesterday. Here are the ten of the twelve contestants
that are for sure in the wildcard."

SO IF THIS IS TRUE JPL IS BACK!! :):):):)
SORRY ABOUT THE LONG POST...

*Jizzikuh*

I'm so excited! Dingle isn't back *sniffs* (there's always next year...and less commercialized music opportunities...), but, at least my pen-sexy pancake baby (Jon Peter Lewis--I only call him "my pancake baby" 'cause in the last post I said he was "hot as a pancake." He is a cutie though...) and one of my group one favorite Marque Lynche!!! Woohoo! I can't wait!
Here's another exciting callback! You've probably heard by now but Donnie Williams got kicked out! That's...definitely not exciting... Here's what we call bad symantecs. Here's the exciting thing: George Huff will be back! Yes, he's performing this week. I loved George Huff, absolutely loved him, so I'm excited. I'm NOT excited, that about Donnie's DUI and consequential 100mph speeding. That's...not cool. Funny thing is, I heard that he was drinking because they were celebrating his acceptance into the Top 32. How's that for cruel irony?

He's no Eric Yoder, but he's sure got The Clay!

     The iEye has a vision.
Jon Peter Lewis, my man, not yours  ; P  , has the potential to be a more tolerable (sorry, I do have a place in my heart for Mr. Aiken, heh, but JPL has stolen me for now) version of Clay Aiken for the new...season.
Did I talk about that yesterday?
My prediction, is that dearest Jon Peter will come back for the Wild Card round, America will love him, and he'll make it to the Top 12. And then the Top 11. Top 10. Top 7. 5. 3. 2.
Well, we'll see. I think...I think he'll make it far with crush-smitten, dialing-fingered losers like myself, his unique voice with the occasional signature chirp, his "wheeeewee!" good looks (JPL you don't need to dress to impress...), his varied song choices, and...his down-to-Earth personality. Such saved Aiken.

Ways JPL of AI3 is like CA of AI2
  • Down-to-Earth, modest personality. Jon Peter just seems to catch my attention more with a more visible sense of humor.
  • Unique voice that can't be replicated. Jon Peter Lewis's staple is the open-throated chirp...as i hear it. Clay Aiken's was the mid-high-pitch twang. At first it was hard to "put my finger on" either.
  • "Dressing to impress" only stuck with Jon Peter for so long. I don't mind it, though.
  • The image switch was more drastic for Clay, and probably more...consensual...for Jon Peter.
  • Elton John songs. I was going to say, for their top 32 auditions, but Clay's was for the Wild Card. Still! I love it!
  • Hot as a pancake to dorks like me. Wait...pancake? Yeah, well, dorks like me are obsessed with Jon Peter. Dorks like me were/are obsessed with Clayton. (I just hope the obnoxious signage doesn't catch on again this year...)
  • Stuck in the good group, they both were. See, there has always been at least one bad group, one mediocre group that we all THOUGHT was great, and one exceptionally good group. (That mediocre group, somehow, has seemed to have its candidates knocked out earlier...) Clay belonged to the exceptionally good group (last year's top three was all from the same group). Jon Peter, I believe, belonged to the good group of this season.
  • Fast songs seem to prove a problem for both--I didn't exactly like Jon Peter in Hollywood, and I didn't exactly like Clay Aiken singing "Grease." Nice jacket, nice hip action, not-so-nice vocal presentation. It's that twang getting in the way. And Jon Peter's bizarre, unnamed niche, I think, knocked his performance down a notch or two too.

Hm. I compared my dear Jefferey Dingle (W.D.D. you guys! Why Didn't Dingle?!) to Clayton Aiken himself and that brought upon a dreadful curse. Let's hope we get some follow-through with this one!

I'm so bad...but this week's "Idol" contestants weren't!

Well, Hawaii, Idaho, and Utah, I think America has chosen whom to vote for.
     LaToya London.
I hope that "American Idol" is one of the reasons why John Kerry has been dominating, because there's just about no other acceptable excuse for him to be winning. At least to me.
Oh, now, let's not get into REAL politics, I have to save that for Bloomin' Dazy, which, by the way, I still have to actually START.
Excuse the hyperness and side trips. I've been intaking an overly-potent music mix of Matthew West, Train, and Jon Peter Lewis all day. *shrugs* : /
Well I guess this is my time to talk 'cause I've had a sore throat today. We had a Socratic Seminar today, and I've been missing old Larry the Voice all week... Hrumph. At least I'm not on AI!
You'll have to accept my apologies for the delay on last week's Tuesday and Wednesday entries, and this week's pre-show. I promise, I have it all written down, I just don't exactly have the time to type it. I'm so fortunate and happy for the space in schedule I've gotten today. So here goes. I apologize. Oh, yeah, the ratings. Here goes:

Italics means one of my Top Three Spot predictions. Underline denotes an iEye favorite. * denotes a Wild Card prediction. I haven't thought about these little markings much--that is, I didn't spend half an hour going, "Well, Leah was this, but she might be a Wild Card instead of #3..." No. I'm not that desperate for a hobby (quite). So there might be, like, four names with asterisks, eight underlines, and one italics. I don't think that's the case, but, rhetorically speaking...
     Anyways... Onforward!

*Elizabeth LeTendre--I expected her to be magnificent. After that three-person Hollywood performance...well her solo had just blown me away. This was great, abso fabu, but she didn't put up the fight I'd expected. I think she just overdid it a bit, and I think that, with that song, she could have smiled more. Wild Card pick? Maybe. Just maybe.
*Eric Yoder--He was still Clay-ish. That was the first thing I thought...when I heard him talk, actually. I don't know about that so-called lack of personality... The difference, to me, is the image. They've just on different ends of the Queer Eye spectrum. Here was my issue: Another light, easy, melodically repetative song. I figured Randy would say it, but the outstanding way he said it made up for the song choice anyway. Fabulous.
Amy Adams--She's been among my favorites throughout the whole competition, and tonight, she was magnifabu! See, I think I've only given out three "dynamic"s this season--Diana DeGarmo and two this week. Yesterday Amy picked a good song with variety (rhythmically, pitch-wise, dynamic-wise...), she sung it well, and she let her personality light absolutely everything up. Here's the what I really loved about her performance: Everyone sings this song. Actually, I've even seen horns play it multiple times at my auditions (I play clarinet in school). But on "American Idol," you'll see at least three people sing it a season, often more. Right now, Nicole Tieri comes to mind--her initial audition in New York, I believe. But Amy twisted it up last night. Amy sang it a little more mellow, a little softer, still kickin' the power in, and generally just sang it differently than most. Maybe because she didn't strain for the Canadian accent. In my friend and "Idol" buddy's words, "She was the first person on the show NOT to butcher a Celine Dion song!" There. You. Go. Screw the whole cabaret comment, that kicked butt.
*Jon Peter Lewis--Aah! He's a CUTIE! I almost wanted to make out with the screen! *coughs* ghm, well, back to business... Okay, I don't know what my family was talking about because they said he was nasal, but what I've always loved about his voice was the...the open-throatedness, the dash of "white man's soul" and country tonage, the weird-yet-appropriate occasional chirp, the down-to-Earth personality seeping through... *sighs* Seriously. Open-throatedness. I think that's the weird part of it Randy was talking about. It's very hollow, in an ironically full way. Do you get me? I love it. I was looking for that, and that I found. I didn't give him italics because, honestly, last night probably wasn't his best. I still love his singing and everything, and I still voted for him, a lot, but...exactly how far could he go? I worry about really fast, upbeat songs, the same problem my last "American Idol" crush Clay Aiken had, but...lovely song choice yesterday night. I love Elton John, I love that song, and I love Jon Peter Lewis, I love his singing. It all worked out for me. Actually, I'm not too sure about my asterisk, though. The judges, it seems, haven't much been regarding him as much of a stand-out, and they make the picks. We'll see though...
*Charly Lowry--She was great. The only thing, she didn't distribute the energy like she should have. That is, she was a little too powerful and loud when she should have been more mellow and much quieter and vice versa. Other than that, I thought she was great.
Jonah Moananu--Jonah... Well, I have always loved Jonah, full of personality, and full of talent...in freestyle rapping. Never have I given Jonah as a full-out "magnificent." He has always sung really well, but not quite fabulously... He did better than before. The visual expression didn't match the song, but I guessed that it was just mannerism anyway, and he was still pretty good.
Leah Labelle--She was good, but ended up screamy. It's a risky song. I liked it though. She had a nice tone, she has always had a unique voice, and I have always loved it. I still do.
LaToya London--The judges praised and praised Leah. Even Simon liked her without protest. Tough act to follow, right? LaToya London proved that wrong. She was DYNAMIC! That's the best I've given anyone all season (Diana DeGarmo got an italicized "dynamic" too, but it wasn't caps-ed, heh). I think that's the best anyone has gotten from anyone all season. Well, actually, we'll see how the voting goes in about an hour and a half (or for me and the rest of us westerners, two and a half). Still! Nobody else has gotten a standing ovation, and I don't think anyone has EVER gotten one mid-song! She gave that song a POWER-PUNCH, her emotion was so appropriate and so visible, she showed range, she shook up the song just a bit, she kept it up and stayed modest through all the positive distractions, and she won us ALL over. The judges couldn't stop rubbing it in that they had ONE favorite, despite the super-talented group. LaToya just blew me away. I couldn't even remember her from before, but she was leaking with talent, dripping with power, spilling emotion all over the place! Fantastic!

Ryan Seacrest--Pwwhh...nobody really cares what I think of Ryan Seacrest. I forgot to pay attention anyway.
Randy Jackson--Well it was aiight dude. I remember you back in Houston and you know you were so much better than that! Mad props, man. *rolls eyes* Yeah, he was less obnoxious this week in general, but the whole trying-to-sound-young-ness still a bit bothers me.
Paula Abdul--She was okay.
Simon Cowell--He was pretty dang stingy for what a good group they'd had! Maybe he's PMS-ing, 'cause, y'know what?, I think if he might've actually been harsher this week than the last.
Audience--Nobody really wants to know how I think the audience did. And, besides, I forgot to pay attention, again...

C'est tout. Je ne peux pas parler au français.
Yeah, so, anyway, I guess that's it. Get ready for tonight as they reveal the next in the Top 12!

NEWS -- Wild Card Round

Lots of news. I'm sure you've all heard about William Hung's growing popularity (why no attention for Dingle and his crowd???), but for those of you who haven't, I'll post something about that later. And, yeah, I know! My Tuesday/Wednesday review will be coming soon, under Tuesday and Wednesday's dates. I promise, I have it all written down in my notebook, and half of the stuff is typed, but it's just not HERE yet. My apologies...

'American Idol' wildcard adjusted

19:09 GMT, Tuesday 17th February 2004 -- by Neil Wilkes

The format of the American Idol wildcard show will undergo a slight alteration this time round.

Few will forget the significance of the wildcard; last year's wildcard public choice Clay Aiken went on to be runner-up of the entire competition.

American Idol's executive oroducer Nigel Lythgoe told reporters on Monday that once again four contestants in all would go through off the back of the wildcard, with one picked by viewers and one by each of the three judges.

Unlike last year however, the decision on who gets to perform in the wildcard will change slightly. "We're hoping to bring back 12 contestants, of which, eight will sing," said Lythgoe. "The judges are going to watch them over a couple of days of rehearsing and make their decision live on the night which 8 of the 12 will sing and audition again for America."

Contestants from any round of the audition process may be called back for wildcard duties, news which could spell a return for Scooter Girl, Paula's male lapdancer or even fans' favourite William Hung.

"Obviously, until we know who's in and who isn't in, we don't want to pin ourselves down too much," Lythgoe added. "We also don't want to pin down how many boys against girls. I personally think we're going to an awful lot of girls this year. I think the girls are stronger. So I might weight the Wild Card show in favour of boys to try and make it a bit more even."

American Idol: The Wildcard airs March 2.

First things first...

    And now...the results...
Well, I'm sure you all watched them anyway, so I'm just gonna stall Ryan-style.  ; P
    No, really, though, this matters.

Thank you so much you guys for posting on the Tagboard, sending me e-mails, commenting on entries... Sorry this is kind of late, this isn't my main e-mail address I use here and I don't look at my own site much, heh. Anyways, y'all are so great (oh shoot I typed "y'all" again...) and it's so flattering and uplifting to know that people out there have actually been reading my site! Not just opening it up, but actually reading it. I love it! I love you, for responding! Taggers!
Stephanie: My first tagger! I love you already! I'll be glad to be affiliates with you, if the offer's still up. : D
Victoria: Thanks muchly! Thanks for taking the time to actually tell me, woohoo!
Eric: Thanks muchly. Awesome. E-mail me, where're you from in CO? Just wondering.
Jon: lol, nice theory. Now that I think about it, Simon was wary of "Dingle" at the audition... That's possible too, changing it to Jefferey D. I don't like it though. "Dingle"'s just so fun to say. But if all else fails--Aiken went from Clayton to just plain Clay too...
Tara: You seem incredibly cool. The end. Incredibly cool. Anyone who likes Clay and likes The Dingle and writes a comment that long is cool in my book. The end. Oh, yeah, and let's really hope for a Wild Card comeback! With early supporters and no moral-related excuse for kicking him out, Dingle does stand a chance!
Lisa: Me too. Whoa! Coloradan? Write me if you're reading. Where in CO?
Sublime: Co-worker? Are you serious? Spiffy...
A fan!: I've joined your group, and I'm just so giddy that we have Dingle supporters. This just might push the judges to actually call for a Carmen Rasmusen-esque Wild Card comeback, especially if more people are in and know, so, come on everybody, let's get the word out! http://www.groups.yahoo.com/groups/BringDingleBack you guys!
Chrystal: Thanks muchly for tagging me and linking me! I love Amy Adams too. Jesus and Noel are all right...
And to anyone everyone else, including anyone whom I've missed (including someone with a Xanga pinay_serenity or something... Pinays rule!): Sorry if I missed you! Thanks so much for reading, writing, enjoying, linking, and being involved. This is awesome, y'all! I found out I'm on Google! And it's all your fault 'cause my dmoz submission hasn't gone through yet, I'm beyond the directory! Thanks so much!

     Back to business...
For the most part, I was pleased with the results, but I think my Curse of the iEye has stricken again. Anyone I ever go crazy on leaves abruptly. Let's see there was DINGLE!!!, Nicole "Scooter Girl" Tieri, Lauren Ensweiler isn't still in it I believe, and now, Marque Lynche. What's up with that? Besides Matt Metzger's undeserved honor of the stool (sorry, but that's what I think), I was pretty much satisfied with the results. I guess I had too many favorites in the group--half of them. Diana DeGarmo, I figured, would get the most votes. Didn't happen, but she still made it. I figured Fantasia would get less than the most votes, but, hey, I'm not complainin'... Fantasia sounded echelons better than she did last night. I think she took it down an octave. Really, once you start on an octave, you can't move, unless you're me in church. Okay, I have no right either, fine...
Did anyone else notice how much more quickly Ryan went through the contestants and how much longer he stalled with chitchat? And how could the audience not have expected those commercial breaks. Egh, I bet they were trained.
I guess there's not much to say on Wednesdays... Oh wait, I have a Wild Card prediction: Katie Webber. Not saying that I hope she's there...well, okay, half of me does...especially more than Marque Lynche and DINGLE! (I'm never getting over that...) and Nicole Tieri, but I think she will.

Anyways, onforward to a few of next week's contenders, in case anyone missed it and is just dying to know. Bear with me, please. Idolonfox hasn't updated their website, and I can't get to my tape right now, so I'm doing this from memory...
  • Camile Velasco Also known as the pancake waitress from Hawaii, she charmed the judges in Hawaii (I think) with her unique voice, but she was notably nervous. Hopefully she can overcome the anxiety and push it all out with power. And by the way, Pinoy/Pinay radar update: My mom swears she must be Filipino too...
  • Jesus Roman The judges all agreed that he and his younger brother had the right stuff. However, I have always thought that they've sounded too much alike to make it very far. Will the voters try to choose between the two, or will they just not pick either?
  • Noel Roman His audition was impressive, but, like his brother's, his statements about the competitiveness between the family were not. Will these influence next week's votes? Hey, here's what sucks about them: They're so much alike, vocally, they look alike, and of course their last names, that it's going to be hard to remember which one's which. I'm having trouble myself, that's why these aren't very in-depth. Will this skew the polls?
  • Matt Rogers His vocals are strong enough, but his ego...just might be too strong. Remember him, the once Rose Bowl participant? The "Don't tell me I'm not taking this seriously" guy?
  • Briana Ramirez-Rial For once, "American Idol" has a loner. She has great vocals, but could she survive in this industry with her anti-hugness?

Dang it, I can't remember any more. If anyone else wants to e-mail them to me, there's a contact link on the right sidebar there. I'll give credit. Thanks muchly.  : )

Again, if y'all want to e-mail, tag, add comments with your own opinions, agreeing or disagreeing, suggestions, complaints, comments, questions, etc., go nuts. I'll be happy to read them.  : D

Kickin' it off the right way...

     Hey Filipino cronies, it's 0210!.
Well you guys, the fun stuff is just beginning on "American Idol." I'll make this relatively short and simple, because I have a lot of homework to do.
This is in order of performance AND voting number.
I've italicized the people whom I predict to move on tomorrow night. I couldn't think of a #3. I'll underline my favorites.

  • Diana DeGarmo Dynamic. I--gasp!--stepped in late, but my first reaction to her was "An edgier Kelly Clarkson..." She has the charisma, personality, confidence, right size of ego, the tone quality, range, strength, vocal talent in general to take her all the way. I totally agree with the judges, including Simon's kindly witty: "She reminds me of Christina Aguilera when she was nice." In conclusion...let me influence your vote: 1-866-IDOLS-01
  • Marque Lynche Another fabulous performance. He seemed pretty nice, maybe a little fake, but still seemed mostly genuinely sweet. I hope it wasn't an act. I think that that might be what might kill him tomorrow night. (See? I didn't italicize him.) I liked his personality. Better than that, though, was his voice. It started off a little too flashy--the runs, the rubato, etc. but it turned out well. He seems like he can do a lot of diverse styles with his voice. I heard a little Broadway, some R&B, a few dashes of pop... This oughtta take him far, especially since each week is themed. He gets my vote, at least. 1-866-IDOLS-02!
  • Ashley Thomas She had a pretty good voice, somewhere between country and Broadway, but Diana and Marque were tough acts to follow... She seemed kind of arrogant, might have overdone the visual expressiveness, but she was okay. She's not getting my vote tonight though.
  • Katie Webber She has the charisma, the personality, and a good voice, but she couldn't stack up tonight. There were some tough acts to compete with. I don't know about her picking that song though. It's good that she's not "playing it safe," but showing off your versatility when the world isn't even that familiar with you yet...I'm not sure if I agreed with that. She did well, though, better than I'd expected. I think she would sound pretty dang good singing "I Hope You Dance" by LeAnn Womack. I still can't decide whether or not to vote for her. I don't think so--I'm going for the absolute best of tonight, and like I said, it was a tough night.
  • Erskine Walcott He was okay. He definitely did not do as well as I had expected. I think he had a weaker voice today than before. He seemed to be straining a bit in the beginning. I agree with Paula, he's very "real," (Coca-Cola plug again?), and that's what I liked, but...I don't think he'll be getting my vote this time around.
  • Jennifer Hudson She has a powerful voice, but she was a little oddly throaty on the big part, when she kicked it up (bridge?). She seems very real, she really seems to want it. I like how she didn't really talk back, she was nice about it, and I love that song so she just might get my vote tonight... The only thing she seems to lack is confidence, which killed Julia last year, but...we'll see... I don't think she's going to make the top three, however, because she's lacking a niche, an edge, or just something to make her really stand out, besides the blindingly shiny burrito suit and "leather nurse look." I mean, something in her voice. Again, we'll see what happens...
  • Matt Metzger He had a different voice, and it sounded pretty good. He had stage presence, yes, Paula, but, I agree with Randy. It lacks strength. Just didn't do it for me...
  • Fantasia Barrino I liked her from the audition. She sounded Macy Gray-ish, in a good way, but with a higher tone and a little less rasp, which really makes her stand out, and will assure that if she is successful she will stay that way. She can sing, without a doubt, but...nasalness. She's a little too nasal and her voice wasn't exactly as pleasing as it was at her audition. She was fun, she was fun. I think it was the song. She might be the #3, I dunno. We'll see...

  • Simon Cowell He was pretty harsh today, but I guess it's time for the leniance to leave. I think he tried too hard to be funny, though, at times. "Sweet...like Paula used to be." Oh please.
  • Randy Jackson I like how he stands his ground. I don't dislike him as much as I did at the auditions, but we still need a translator to care about his input anyway...
  • Paula Abdul Sugarcoating as much as she used to. Bah.

Down to Business

Here I am, getting down to business, trying to influence your vote, and trying to forget about all of last night's injustice and depressing rejections...
I'm putting these in order of who's going to do the best, starting with the most, then the least, on next week's show. This is probably going to be pretty off, especially since I don't even remember Marque Lynche and some people I've seen more than others. These are going to be sort of a recap of what I thought of them, what the judges did if I remember.

  1. Katie Webber Actually, I don't think she's going to do the best, well maybe, but she has a good voice, good looks, confidence, and performance poise, to get her in that number one spot next week so I guess it all works out. The judges loved her. My complaint was that her singing was a little "talky," less melodic. She did better in Hollywood though. I'm reading her idolonfox  bio and I love the last thing: What would people be surprised to learn about you? That I’m part Hispanic (my grandmother was born in Mexico), and my boobs are REAL!!!!
  2. Erskine Walcott The originality, the image, and the voice click together. I haven't seen him much, I can't even recall the judges' response except for last night: "You make everything your own."
  3. Fantasia Borrino After the audition, my crude reaction was, "There's always a skinny African-American girl with an amazing voice and a cool name, but she always gets robbed." I still think she's great. I still think she's gonna get robbed, though, but perhaps sooner than Tamyra Gray, Christina Christian, and Trenyce...

This is where I stop actually predicting, heh... Unfortunately, I don't remember these people much. I don't remember ever critiquing them before, I don't remember anything incredibly stand-out from last night... Ah well.

  1. Jennifer Hudson
  2. Diana DiGarmo
  3. Matthew Metzger
  4. Ashley Thomas

Somewhat random predictions once I got past three, lol.

Conspiracy

     I'm still bitter.
While I'm not denying disappointment in the decision of dropping Dingle (how's that for alliteration?), I'm not dwelling
Nicole Tieri proved to be a crowd favorite between all of my cronies (unanimous minus one vote). Now I'm not saying that my few asked "Idol"heads represent Randy, Paula, and Simon, or the millions of number-punching "Idol"heads who would vote on her and others later, but I'm just saying. All of these people I asked liked "Scooter Girl" except for one, but the ones who did like her named her as a fave without me asking. (Jasmine, known for her small stature and big voice, was the only person who topped that.) "I did everything you told me to..." Tieri said disappointedly as she went to a judge for a hug. Sure, I agreed on the whole thing on her sounding too Broadway, but what about passing Clay Aiken last year? That thought resonated throughout not only the judges' comments, but viewer opinion as well.
"Don't tell me I'm not taking this seriously." Understood, Matt Rogers. Now I'm starting to wonder if the judges are taking this seriously. They've blown hopes for George Huff and Nicole Tieri, who gave it their all to satisfy the judges. George tried to change his image. Nicole tried to change her style. And how much did Alan and Lisa try? Did the judges see the hot tub scenes? They did see the mechanical bull stunt from Corey Clark last year. If Simon's gonna project another wild and normal person plug for the two models (remember how Simon liked Corey for being wild and real) I'm gonna scream. We're not looking for a completely normal person. It's "American Idol." You asked for people to make themselves stand out, right?
Okay, but I'm happy about one person. Amy Adams has been consistent (last year's theme--season one was "song choice") in her success. She not only has the fun, bubbly personality, but she also possesses, of course, the versatile, strong vocals. She's more than the red hair and her niche this year, I guess because she doesn't really have one, she's more all-around. Last year, Vanessa Olivarez had the voice and the potbelly pig, but when she failed out on the singing once, nobody bought it. Season one, our resident redhead was Nikki McKibbin who had the edge, the sexy smile, but, we found when she tried to hit a note above middle B, maybe not the vocal strength. Amy Adams has, so far, been able to go all over the map of pitches, she has covered the edge in her image, and she definitely has the humor and personality. In my opinion, she was the only stand-out (whom they've shown us) who had always let herself stand out, and she did it in multiple ways, more ways than the sucking up (ALAN!), the model body (LISA! yeah...I am so bitter...)
George Huff and Nicole Tieri gave it their all, and they deserve more. I'm hoping for another way-back-when Wild Card call to save them (and maybe Dingle--geehee!) like it saved Carmen Rasmusen, and almost three others, last year.

De-Dingled

Well, *sniffs*, we've been de-Dingle-d. And I'm not sure if Nguyen was there either.
Okay, so maybe I was wrong about the Asian popstar thing.
     Or was I?
I think I'll still end up stalking Jefferey Dingle somehow. Somehow...
I can't believe Lisa Wilson got in but not Lauren Ensweiler, whose performance was both talented and charming (that includes the comedy--her gay ex lament). I bet it's just for the cameras...the controversy...and screw Alan Ritchson. Oh wait, don't. I'm sure he's getting enough already, undeserving turd.
Excuse me, you guys, I think I'll be needing some time to recover...and to watch the tapes.
